What is pastoral care?
The term is usually applied to the practice of “looking after the personal and social well being of children” *. It can involve a huge variety of issues including health related, social and moral issues, behaviour management and emotional support.

The deprivation theory
One theory that may help to define ‘pastoral care’ is the deprivation theory. The Deprivation Theory proposes that every problem that exists is as a direct or indirect result of one form or another of an unprovided need
- An unprovided physical need;
- An unprovided psychological need;
- An unprovided spiritual need;
- Or a combination of deprivations
